Orhan Özçatalbaş
Dr. Orhan Özçatalbaş is a distinguished Professor and the current Director of the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences at Akdeniz University, Türkiye. He holds a degree in agricultural economics from Çukurova University. His extensive career includes becoming an assistant professor at Akdeniz University in 1998 and achieving full professorship in 2011. Dr. Özçatalbaş's research is deeply rooted in agricultural economics, with a strong focus on rural development and extension, energy policy, and the critical role of ICT in agriculture. He is also a recognized expert in innovation and information management within these fields. Notably, he served as a visiting scientist at the Institute of Horticultural Economics, Leibniz University of Hanover, Germany (1999–2000). During this period, he also conducted post-doctoral research in "Horticultural Information System and Management" at Leibniz University of Hanover. He has engaged in international academic collaborations through courses in Italy and the Erasmus program in Poland. His commitment to global engagement is further evidenced by his participation in numerous international congresses. Dr. Özçatalbaş brings significant professional experience in rural development, policy, and extension, having authored over a hundred papers and books in these areas. He has been a pivotal figure in both national and international projects, serving as an expert and coordinator. His influence extends to policy-making as a Member of the Monitoring Committee for the EU IPARD Program Türkiye Managing Authority. In recognition of his impactful contributions, Dr. Özçatalbaş received the 2021 Scientist of the Year Award from the Turkish Nobel Science and Research Center Association, specifically for his work in agricultural economics, rural tourism, and development. As a lecturer and researcher at Akdeniz University, he continues to guide undergraduate and graduate students, shaping the next generation of experts in his field.
